Body Worn Camera’s trialled by Wyndham Basketball
We are committed to further maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors and staff at our facilities. As part of ongoing efforts to address anti-social behaviour, we are pleased to support the Wyndham Basketball Association (WBA) in a 12-month trial of Body Worn Cameras (BWCs). Authorised WBA Competition Supervisors and Executive Team Members will use these cameras.
BWCs have been successfully implemented in Australia’s retail and community sports sectors to enhance safety. This trial follows extensive consultations with key partners including WBA, our Board of Directors, Wyndham City Council, and Basketball Victoria, all of whom support the trial.
Alongside our focus on safety, the privacy of our patrons and staff has been thoroughly considered. Privacy will be safeguarded by the policy and procedures put in place by WBA that ensure compliance with all relevant legislative framework.
The trial is intended to start in June during senior domestic competitions on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The following is further information of how BWC’s will be used by WBA.

BWC’s will only record when activated.

BWC’s will only be activated when the authorised user determines an incident is or is about to occur.

BWC’s will only be activated in public spaces (not in offices, bathrooms, officials room etc).

The authorised user will inform patrons when they activate the BWC to record.

Recorded footage will be stored, accessed, and deleted in line with strict WBA protocols.

WBA staff authorised to use BWC’s and to access footage, will undergo the appropriate training.
